How to make chocolate granola
Besides prepping the ingredients, there isn’t much else that goes into making this granola. Ready to whip some up?
Step 1: Preheat the oven
Preheat the oven to 160C and have a cookie sheet or baking sheet ready.
Step 2: Prepare batter for chocolate granola
Take a bowl and mix rolled oats, sea salt, hazelnuts, and cocao powder in it and set aside. In a small saucepan, mix sea salt, brown sugar, maple syrup, oil, water, and praline paste. Mix and bring it to a boil. Then, combine it with the oat mixture. Now add hazelnut extract, mix well to coat the nuts and oats, and then transfer it to a baking tray in a single layer.
Step 3: Bake
First, bake for 30 minutes in preheated oven. Remove from oven, stir and bake for another 30 minutes.
Step 4: Cool and serve
Remove from the oven and allow it to cool thoroughly. Once cooled, mix chopped chocolate in it and serve!
Tips to make the best recipe
- Make sure to use high-quality dark chocolate containing at least 70% cocoa solids for a rich, intense flavor.
- Toasting the oats in the oven before adding them to the recipe will give the granola a crunchy texture.
- Chocolate granola can burn quickly, so keep a close eye on it while it’s baking. If you notice the edges are starting to brown, give the granola a stir, then remove it from the oven.
Flavor variations
Like any good granola recipe, adapting it with different flavors and mix-ins is super simple. Here are some ideas:
- Try different add-ins. Add nuts, seeds, or dried fruit to the granola mixture before baking to boost the flavor.
- Use flavored chocolate chips. Instead of regular dark chocolate, you can also try using flavored chocolate chips, such as mint chocolate or peanut butter chocolate.
- Add different extracts. You can try adding extracts, such as vanilla, almond, or coconut, to the granola mixture to give it a different flavor.
Storage instructions
To store. Leftovers can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to one month.
To freeze. Place granola in a ziplock bag and store it in the freezer for up to 6 months.
